Our Engineering Apprenticeship is based in our Runcorn plant is a four-year programme that leads to an HNC. It is an exciting, blended learning approach of in-college and on-the-job training which is right at the heart of an enormous global manufacturing operation.
How does the programme work?
During year 1 you will build, assemble, install and commission a live electrical panel with emergency controls, stop/start sequence and techniques like PLC's that drive a motor control speed unit to activate a working panel and or conveyor system along with learning about measuring, marking out, bench fitting techniques along with lathe, milling and mechanical maintenance type activities.
During year 1 you will attend Waterside full time from Monday to Friday from 8:45 am. to 4:00 p.m. During Years 2 - 4, on attending the Diageo plant, you will work a 35-hour week and work a shift pattern covering 12-hour day and night shifts within the programme.

What are the Career Paths after the programme?
At the end of the programme, you will have obtained your Engineering HNC.
As an Engineer, you will have deep understanding of our operations. Depending on your interests, you can also work towards a variety of Manufacturing roles, such as Manufacturing Excellence roles, Capability or Team Leadership.
Who are we looking for?
Academically we are looking for 5 GCSE's A-C or Level 5-9 in English, Mathematics and Science are essential along with any practical related technology subjects, such as Engineering, Electronics, Design Technology, Resistant Materials would be desirable. Please note that we will only be able to accept applications from people who have already achieved these grades.

What should I expect from the selection process?
Selecting the right individuals to join our programme is crucial to us – we want to see all that complete this Apprenticeship succeed and keep crafting a satisfying career!
This is why we have built a 3 steps selection process:
- 1st STEP – CV application and online game set
At this stage is important that you submit your updated CV, clearly stating your highest acquired education and your experience.
We don’t expect you to have experience in Manufacturing necessarily.
A brief description of your part time jobs, volunteering, sports, and hobbies can be a fantastic way to introduce yourself.
Right after your CV submission, you will also receive a link to an online game set. Please make sure to complete the set in a quiet environment with no distraction and stable Wi-Fi.
Following the first screening, you will then be invited to the second step.

- 3rd and FINAL STEP – Assessment Centre
