Your contribution
Through its organisation, GEMS is able to cover most of the key geographical markets.
Within GEMS’ Business Unit, GEM UK manages assets and product portfolios related to power, gas, and emissions in the UK markets, actively supporting the country’s ambitious path to a net zero economy.
Role
The VIE will learn to manage (flexible) positions coming from GEM UK internal and external clients. The main objective is leveraging through trading positions to produce positive P&L while bordering the risk with appropriate strategies . The risk carried out will be monitored through trading classical indicators and will have to cope with risk mandate requirements.
Key missions
The Desk will participate in developing trust and cooperation within the BU GEMS and with other ENGIE’s BUs. Within its perimeter and as defined by the Head of Desk, the Junior Energy Trader will learn to:
- Manage renewable power exotic risk across the curve
- Manage/optimize term positions (Outright and Options)
- Manage flexibility and options (eg. clean spark spread options, power and gas options)
- Ensure performance of books under its perimeter and related reporting
- Operate within the approved risk mandate
- Propose improvement of models, processes & tools and follow-up implementation
The VIE/ Junior Energy Trader will demonstrate team spirit and participate to constructive relationships within the desk and with other teams.
As part of its learning experience, the VIE/ Junior Energy Trader will provide ad hoc support and back-up to the rest of the trading team in various desk tasks as required (for example, management of cross-border energy interconnectors, or of clients’ requests for hedging services, etc).
The VIE is foreseen for an overall period of ~18 months (to be refined, but no more than 12 months in the UK), with hiring opportunity for successful candidates. The position is based in London but with an initial period (6 to 9 months) of the training taking place in GEMS’ offices in Brussels.

- Ideally some experience and understanding of energy markets and financial mathematics;

Education and professional background
- You have a Master’s Degree in a quantitative subject: Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, etc;
