Education required

Other requirements
- You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) University for the duration of your placement.
- If you have already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.

Role 1: Biopharm Process Research

Overview of the department
BioPharm Process Research (BPR) is an early process development function responsible for de-risking and accelerating biopharmaceutical assets into clinical manufacture and onward late-stage development and commercial manufacture. Due to recent investments in scale-down, high-throughput process and analytical technology within BPR, an exciting new data science opportunity exists to fully exploit the data generated to deliver deeper and faster understanding of cell line and molecule quality in our process design space.
Key placement activities
- Build, maintain and update dashboards and visualisations that will be used by the scientists on a daily basis.
- Apply data analysis, machine learning & data wrangling to identify relationships between key cellular and process characteristics and product quality and determine methods to exploit and apply this knowledge in the BPR portfolio workflow.
- Train and share knowledge and ways of working internally to upskill existing staff as required.
- Identify the most impactful workflows that will derive unique cell, process and molecule understanding.

This is an exciting opportunity to join GSK and gain exposure for innovation in the field of Statistics and Data Science to help transform the way in which we use data and quantitative thinking to drive decision-making in R&D. We are growing our cutting-edge statistical innovation and data science capabilities by expanding the Statistics & Data Science Innovation Hub (SDS-IH), a methodologically focused, solution-oriented functional group within GSK’s Biostatistics department.
Key placement activities
- Develop and explore novel methods for handling prediction problems

Overview of the department
DDAP (Digital, Data, Analytics and Performance) is part of the PPM (Project Portfolio Management) department, which manages the delivery of the whole Rx and Vx R&D project portfolio. The department provides state-of-the-art systems, tools and high-quality data and analytics to enable effective and agile project management and governance across the R&D pipeline.
Key placement activities
- Analytics and Reporting Design/Delivery: interpreting data, creating meaningful visualizations, and communicating insights effectively to stakeholders.
- Gathering requirements from stakeholders, translating business needs into technical specifications, and designing solutions that align with business objectives.
- Agile Methodology: managing projects with flexibility, emphasizing iterative development, team collaboration, and responding to change.
- AI/ML Discovery/Implementation: strengthen knowledge in identifying opportunities for AI/ML applications, understanding machine learning models, and implementing AI solutions
