We have an exciting opportunity in London for a recently qualified Quantity Surveyor or Engineer to join us as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in our Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) team. We have 2 London based offices situated in Croydon and Central London respectively. The successful candidate could work from either office to suit their convenience and hybrid working is standard practice at Henry Riley.

The role will see you work as part of a small M&E team supporting the wider Henry Riley business on projects across the full spectrum of the built environment, including exposure to the residential, retail, commercial and healthcare sectors and more.

Within this role you will develop your skills as a quantity surveyor and put them to practice relating to common mechanical and electrical systems used within the built environment. This will include Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and electrical systems.

Key tasks and responsibilities 

  • Ensuring the client achieves their stated objectives through close teamwork and proactive cost control
  • Preparing financial reports
  • Monitoring the projects status and providing reports on progress
  • Provide cost on design solutions
  • Managing the tender process
  • Carrying out feasibility studies
  • Administer cost/variation procedures
  • Carry out full contract surveying duties including feasibility and pre-contract estimating, establishing the effect of variations, settlement of accounts and disputes
  • Manage all aspects of the contractual and financial side of core M&E projects

Desired qualifications, experience and skills

  • Must hold a Degree or similar equivalent qualification in a relevant subject such as Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems would be advantageous, but is not essential as full training can be provided.
  • Strong reporting skills and the ability to follow leading industry systems and procedures.
  • Excellent numerical and literacy skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a client facing role.
  • Ambitious by nature and a desire to work towards chartership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
