Participants on our Graduate Programme will develop their strategic thinking, problem solving, project management, leadership and relationship building skills whilst undertaking placements within their chosen profession. Day to day, depending on your chosen profession you could be acquiring or disposing of land, providing investment for infrastructure or working collaboratively with our partner organisations. From day one, you will have ownership and responsibility for your own projects / work.

You will be supported by your placement manager; have a buddy and you will be empowered to take ownership of your own learning and development including having access to a coach or mentor. Towards the end of the programme, we will support you to obtain a role aligned to your career aspirations and organisational needs.

A bit about the role

Passionate about sustainability in the built environment? Want to be part of the team that builds well designed and sustainable homes and places whilst also protecting our planet? Come join Homes England on a two year graduate programme where you will gain valuable sustainability related technical and professional skills.

The programme has been specifically designed to align with IEMA Sustainability Skills Map giving you a boost to your future career in sustainability, and a pathway towards future Chartership aspirations. In your time with us you will learn about how sustainability policy, and how this is interpreted into the practical delivery of well designed and sustainable homes and places.

You will learn about what is means to deliver biodiversity net gain: how to ensure compliance with environmental protection regulation; how thoughtful landscape architecture can enhance the quality of life for residents: what actions we need to take to reduce our carbon emissions; modern methods of construction, corporate sustainability; the relationship between sustainability and social value, and so much more. This experience will be complemented by opportunities to gain and develop valuable core professional skills such as strategic thinking and problem solving, developing communication skills, networking, negotiation and persuasion, presenting to audiences, collaborative working with partners and handling tricky situations.

You will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects and engage with the broader housing sector and gain new perspectives through several short term external placements. They’ll be a network of colleagues to support your development and celebrate your achievements – large and small. We take pride in our organisational values and aim to live them every day.

To be shortlisted for this role you will require a degree in Environmental Science and Sustainability, Sustainable Built Environments, Energy and Resource or Environmental Management.

Homes England are a geographically diverse community. We work to a 50/50 office/ home based model. Moving back into our office environments has enabled us to utilise our space and time together in the most collaborative way.
