The practice is situated on the edge of Truro, with good travel links including Newquay Airport with direct flights to most big UK and European cities, as well as European holiday destinations. Truro is also on the West Coast main line with regular direct trains to London. Truro is Cornwall's only city and is the primary shopping, entertainment and cultural hub with good sport facilities and the beautiful and varied Cornish countryside on the doorstep. Cornwall has world renowned beaches, both for scenery and watersports, being the UK's top surf spot. You are never far from the coast in our part of the world!

Whilst most of our work is ambulatory, we have the facilities to admit patients for further examination and procedures at the practice. We use an Equinosis 'Q' lameness detection system to assist in lameness work-ups at the practice, where we have a sand school, paddock and stabling for hospitalisation of more intensive cases. We currently run a mobile CR X-ray unit, with plans to upgrade to DR this year. We use the XV3 ultrasound scanning unit for tendon/abdo/repro scanning which is also fully mobile. We also have access to a laser surgery unit. On the farm side we use Easyscans and Easyscan Go ultrasound scanners and have an on-site large animal crush for standing surgery, with loose boxes and calf/sheep pens. We use an electroejaculator with bull and ram probes for farm fertility work.

Step into a supportive start

Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 5 days a week. Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 17:30. You are also required to participate in an out of hours on-call rota which will include working on weekends and bank holidays.

Our graduates become part of the team from day one. Initially they will shadow one of the other Vets on calls to get used to the area, meet some clients and develop an understanding of how the practice operates. When they feel ready, they begin taking their own visits, although these are fully backed up by another vet to provide instant support where required. As their confidence builds, we encourage taking on more complex procedures and investigations where appropriate and in line with the Graduate Academy training, so they can put their learned theory into practice as soon as possible to cement their understanding.

Caseload split of 50% Equine and 50% Farm.
