    The role

    Global regulatory risk newswire MLex is looking for an Editor for its London bureau. This is an opportunity to cover a wide range of regulatory stories from competition to climate, and is suited both to experienced editors and to reporters with a flair for writing who want to make the switch. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor reporters and help develop their story ideas.

    The core role is to edit and rewrite copy from the London and Brussels bureaus across all MLex services: Mergers, Antitrust, Data Privacy, Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Trade, Financial Services, Financial Crime, Intellectual Property and Energy. These are complex regulatory areas, and the Editor will rapidly need to build a thorough, localized understanding of them all in order to ask the right questions about accuracy, context, timeliness, sourcing and news value.

    MLex is a real-time newswire, and the successful candidate will be expected to turn around urgent copy quickly. With the support of the Europe Managing Editor in Brussels and Deputy Managing Editor in London, they will manage the daily copy flow and make decisions on which stories to prioritize in real time.

    We also publish daily in-depth reporting and commentary, and the Editor will work with reporters to craft these, from refining the initial idea to making the finished article jump off the screen.

    Further tasks will include to help coach reporters on all aspects of the writing process, contribute to developing MLex’s coverage, and prepare stories and images for featured presentation on our website.

    • Develop a deep understanding across MLex’s areas of regulatory coverage
    • Help manage the daily copy flow
    • Contribute to editorial decision-making
    • Coach reporters on all aspects of the writing process
    • Prepare stories and images for featured presentation on our website
    • Serve as a role model in the London office
    • Support the Managing Editor for Europe and the Deputy Managing Editor in London
