LGT Wealth Management US provides discretionary and advisory investment services to US citizens and was established in recognition of the specialist services required for US connected clients.

The team has an in-depth knowledge of working within the appropriate tax and legal frameworks and is involved in a broad range of activities including Investments, Planning/Structuring and Relationship Management. Business Unit

The Wealth Planning team is responsible for the provision of comprehensive financial planning advice to individuals, companies, partnerships and trusts. We work with our clients to create a bespoke financial plan, considering the whole of the market in order to find the best financial planning solutions. We are involved in a broad range of activities including:

  • Psychometric risk profiling
  • Retirement planning
  • Pension aggregation
  • Income tax planning
  • Inheritance tax planning
  • Business planning
  • Protection for death
  • Protection for illness
  • Savings
  • Long term investments
  • Offshore and international planning for non-domiciled and non-resident clients

Brief role objective

This is an entry level role, which represents an excellent starting point for a career in wealth planning.

At the outset, the role will be focused on providing support to the Wealth Planners, this will be focused on both administrative tasks as well as the preparation of wealth planning documents, notes and presentations to build up technical knowledge and awareness. This would provide a grounding and understanding of the financial planning process, solutions and back office systems.

You will also be required to carry out balance sheet analysis and, utilise excel in preparing technical wealth planning solutions to clients. As the role develops, you will gradually start to utilise wealth planning software systems such as cash flow modelling to prepare wealth planning proposal documents.
In addition, there would be an expectation for you to complete the diploma in financial planning examinations via the Chartered Insurance Institute to become a paraplanner.

Subsequently, you will progress to a junior paraplanning role and be responsible for carrying out research, analysis and report writing of wealth planning recommendation and advice reports to clients. You will also be attending client meetings alongside the wealth planners. The trainee paraplanner role provides an opportunity to progress to a career as a wealth planner or technical wealth planning specialist.

Key responsibilities


  • Client data input and client record maintenance
  • Issue and follow up information requests to life /investment companies in writing and telephone
  • Issue LOA’s to providers and request information
  • Summarise information into template format for Wealth Planners/Paraplanners to prepare recommendation reports
  • Client, life company and internal liaison with Investment Managers
  • Produce valuations from Figaro (as required)
  • Submit and process new business adhering to compliance requirements
  • Maintain back office database systems, fund updates, template set up
  • General administration tasks including, scanning, printing, archiving.

Preparation and maintenance of client files

  • Collect and analyse financial information obtained from clients to determine strategies for
  • meeting client’s financial objectives.
  • Ensure that all compliance paperwork is recorded in line with procedure manual and
  • FCA guidelines.
  • Accurately record client information and documentation within the back office/CRM system.
  • Confirm client risk profile is determined and recorded.
  • Discuss client objectives with Paraplanner/Wealth Planner.
  • Identify and obtain the information necessary to compile financial cash flow forecast (if required).

Build cash flow models (if required)

  • Ensure that quantitative data used by the cash flow modelling tool is correct.
  • Interpret qualitative data received from Paraplanner/Wealth Planner and build scenarios using cash
  • flow modelling tool.
  • Compile net worth statement; income and expenditure statements and financial cash flow
  • forecast and discuss with Wealth Planners.

Oversee implementation of recommendations

  • Ensure all compliance paperwork is in order for new business submission.
  • Oversee the completion of application / proposals forms prior to issuing to client. Oversee implementation of the agreed recommendations including discussion with Wealth Planners (where necessary).

Prepare for client reviews

  • Act as main point of contact with providers / third parties through effective communication.
  • Update cash flow models following review meetings.
  • Provide all relevant research needed for annual review.

Other tasks

  • To oversee and complete specific projects for the wealth planning team/business as and when required.

Your profile

  • A keen interest to gain a career in Financial Services/Wealth Management
  • Strong numerical literacy, comfortable handling large amounts of data, and manipulating it in excel.
