The ATT-CTA Programme

When you join, you’ll start working towards the ATT-CTA qualification. As an Apprentice you'll get involved with client work as part of a supportive and inclusive team. Our apprentices have the opportunity to work with a diverse clientele representing various industry sectors, giving you a well-rounded experience. We prioritise your growth by providing you with a mentor and training manager throughout the programme

What does the Tax Disputes and Disclosures (TDD) team do?

The TDD team’s primary role is to assist clients who have fallen behind with their UK tax reporting obligations, either intentionally or through innocent error. The team specialises in negotiating the best settlement terms with HMRC on our client’s behalf and manage various aspects of taxation for individuals, businesses and companies. In the most serious cases, with TDD guidance a taxpayer will be able to avoid prison for tax evasion offences. The TDD experts also help clients extract themselves from tax avoidance arrangements. As a result, TDD clients are from a wide range of backgrounds, and can include high-profile individuals.

Working in the TDD team offers great exposure to a variety of tax work, as you will learn aspects of both personal and business tax through your studies and work. You will learn how to understand and navigate HMRC’s legal powers, identifying opportunities for challenging HMRC, and your work will include hands on experience with clients and HMRC as you support the senior members of the team in casework.

What do we look for?

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals who enjoy a challenge, and we welcome applicants with a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree in any discipline. Tax is a technically demanding discipline, so it’s important that students can grasp new subjects quickly. You don’t have to be a maths genius but it’s important you are confident with numbers and have good attention to detail. You’ll often need to explain complex financial information, so you’ll also need excellent written and verbal communication skills.

If that sounds like you then you could be a great fit at Menzies.

What can we offer?

  • Agile working policy.
  • Dress for your day policy.
  • 23.5 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Opportunity to buy and sell annual leave.
  • Paid study leave.
  • Structured career development plans.
