Microsoft Research, Health Futures (UK), is looking for an innovative, collaborative research intern to work impactful healthcare problem. You can be part of a multi-disciplinary team that values diversity and collaboration, composed of researchers, software developers, user researchers and clinicians.

The research will involve state of the art machine learning, statistics, large language models, generative AI and causal method techniques to help clinicians achieve more and improve existing healthcare workflows. This role offers a unique opportunity for novel research in a team in industry and to work on healthcare technology with the potential to impact millions of people around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct innovative research alongside a team of experts in machine learning, software development, user research, and clinical practice.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning solutions which consider clinical factors and responsible AI.
  • Share research findings with research and product teams.
  • Contribute to an evolving team with a growth mindset, creating clarity and influencing the team strategy.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in a related area, for example computer science, deep learning/machine learning, applied mathematics/statistics, physics, computational medicine/biology.
  • Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with machine learning, multi-modal data processing, causal inference, robustness, LLMs and generative AI.
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, etc.) and software engineering skills for rapid and accurate development.  
  • Experience working with medical data, like unstructured electronic medical records or other modalities.
  • Experience working with biological sequence data (immunomics, genomics, proteomics).
  • Passionate about real-world applications and impact (e.g., healthcare).
  • Impact driven mindset and ability work and learn in a collaborative and diverse environment.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Track record of publications in top ML conferences or clinical journals.
