Mintel is excited to be seeking a Software Engineering placement student with a foundational knowledge of Python or Web frontend development skills to join our Belfast based development team for 12 months, starting July 2023. The 12 months paid industrial placement will suit undergraduate students who have the opportunity to complete a year in industry after completing the second year of their degree.
Our placements are designed to develop your knowledge and practical technical skills to prepare you to contribute in the workplace as part of our agile engineering development teams. During the placement, you will gain crucial industry experience and valuable business insight that will help develop you into a solid development team member.

As an Industrial Placement student on our team, you will become a core member working with a range of technologies and disciplines. You will work on real development tasks, helping improve our products and bring new features of Mintel’s technical estate to market. What happens when you join?
The first couple of weeks are primarily focused on induction and getting to know the team.
- We will introduce you into a development team’s processes and prepare you to become a regular contributor as part of the team delivering new features to market.
- We will help you learn about our Mintel platform and get up to speed quickly through a combination of training courses, self learning, pair programming and peer support.
What will you be doing?
- Work closely with the product stakeholders, Architecture and other engineering teams to participate in planning activities.
- Develop and deliver features across Mintel’s full software stack.
- Contribute to the high quality assurance effort, including use of test automation tools (such as Pytest) and Continuous Integration tools (such as GitHub).
- Consider team processes and suggest improvements when you see opportunities.
What We’re Looking for
- Passionate and enthusiastic about technology who is able to demonstrate a broad technical knowledge
- Foundational/basic Python or Web frontend development skills
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology platforms
- Understanding of agile development concepts
- Aptitude for identifying and solving problems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
