As a Graduate Electrical Engineer, you will utilise your technical knowledge and experience as an important member of the Electrical design team within a global engineering group. This group is responsible for delivering a range of world class leading innovative engineering designs and solutions for Wireline Systems, Wellhead Pressure Control Equipment, and machinery to satisfy customers.

About the role

Acting under the guidance of the Principal Engineer, the Graduate Electrical Design Engineer produces these solutions for hydraulic, pneumatic or electro mechanical system designs using advanced CAD tools where appropriate for the task. An appreciation of the commercial implications of engineering decision making, exceptional understanding of engineering principles, attention to detail and problem-solving skills, along with a good awareness of modern manufacturing technologies and practises, the ability to work effectively with other team members, and a keen focus on delivery.

You will be focused on customer’s needs both internal and external. You should be keen to take on fresh challenges, develop your technical and interpersonal skills as well as expand your knowledge and experience through a variety of exciting projects. Crucial to this role will be your ability to contribute to continual improvement processes, enhancing efficiency and performance within your team and working in line with our business strategy.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in electrical engineering or similar. Duties & responsibilities

  • Apply your Electrical Engineering knowledge to innovate, design & develop customised customer-centric designs
  • Carry out Electrical Engineering design, analysis, testing & validation as required
  • Plan & lead design on small to medium sized projects as allocated by the Principal Engineer with some supervision
  • Prepare cost estimates & ensure all designs assigned are completed within budget
  • Ensure designs produced are efficient & cost effective, seeking to reuse existing designs & components wherever practical
  • Prepare & check associated engineering documents in accordance with engineering group policy, (such as schematics, drawings, technical illustrations, manuals, reports & calculations)
  • Attend & participate in client meetings, always ensuring customer care is the foremost priority
  • Ensure all assigned deliverables are technically in accordance with client requirements & established contract requirements
  • Develop & take part in test programs & factory acceptance tests (FAT) to validate designs
  • Ensure Engineering Change procedures are implemented thoroughly, helping to always minimise disruption to the business
  • Contribute to the investigation, resolution & documentation of Engineering queries including through Engineering Support functions in a timely & technically acceptable fashion
  • Remain aware & be involved in the latest developments within the industry & the greater engineering world to identify any potential concepts that could be incorporated into new designs
  • Ensure accurate record keeping in relation to projects & time recording according to required schedule
  • Support other departments & business units both locally & globally carrying out other duties as & when business requirements dictate as may be reasonably expected by line manager
  • Travel required as dictated by project needs (worldwide travel) for client meetings, & to provide site installation, commissioning/testing support or other related activity as required

Qualifications & experience

  • Degree in Electrical or related Engineering - pass at Class 2:1 or above (essential)
  • Masters Degree in Engineering (desirable)
  • Design & troubleshoot electro mechanical system (essential)
  • Knowledge of a manufacturing environment would be an advantage
  • Some working knowledge of the following would be good to have:-
    • The Energy Industry & operations, specifically Wireline Intervention & completion methods
    • Wireline winches, masts and associated product designs

Skills, training or special knowledge

  • Knowledge of Eplan or AutoCAD Electrical (essential)
  • Computer literacy (including good command of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook) (essential)
  • Design codes: IEC Standards, EU Directives and CE Marking (good to have)
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD (desirable)
