What you’ll do
There are four positions available on our graduate program. The successful candidates will spend two years rotating across different business functions, spending up to six months in each – Product Management, Commissioning, Editorial, and Marketing. There will be an initial four-week induction, followed by on-the-job training, a product management certification, and full-time career opportunities at the end of the program.
Your intensive induction will include training in a range of key business and personal skills to help you settle into your role quickly, build a network within the developer community, and ensure that you make the most of your time with us. Your graduate program manager will contact you before you start, and your manager and mentor will ensure you have the right training, tools, and development plans to grow. You will also be given insight into roles that may interest you at the end of the program.
Opportunities
Product Management
You will learn how we use customer insight to develop and propose new ideas and to deliver great digital and physical book content. You will get hands-on experience in product management by working on real products across the development lifecycle – you will see how we plan and deliver new features across multiple customer journeys and progression paths, understanding how we research and commission titles, market titles to customers, and identify and connect with partners for collaboration and promotion.
Commissioning & Acquisition
Packt’s Commercial team is responsible for publishing titles on new and emerging technologies and topics. They identify gaps in the market for book products and work with the technology community to deliver them. You will be involved in the core areas of the book lifecycle, such as assessing book proposals and manuscripts, understanding the contractual process, technical review and will liaise with authors, reviewers, editors, designers, and marketing.
Editorial
Our editors work with authors to deliver great text; they lay it out and bring it to life. Being an editor requires an exceptional eye for detail, presentation and style. Editors have great time management, communication and language skills, and an ability to juggle multiple books at once. You will have the opportunity to edit manuscripts written by some of the best minds in tech, quality checking their manuscripts to ensure that they meet Packt’s publishing standards; you will write compelling book blurbs and proofread marketing materials to ensure accurate and appropriate information. You will also be given insight into Production, one of the core publishing functions. This team is responsible for converting a finalized manuscript into the final book.
Content Marketing
Our Content Marketing team designs innovative marketing strategies that engage with technical communities. Building on your market knowledge and on Packt’s historical performance, you will develop marketing campaigns to support authors. Working to a brief and budget, you will consider direct marketing, publicity, trade and other promotions, e-marketing campaigns, branding and communications, including preparing and designing catalogs. You will also identify and contact potential partners for collaboration.
Who you are
The work we do is fast paced, demanding, and intellectually challenging. We are looking for dynamic candidates with an interest in technology and publishing. You will need strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and excellent organization and time-management skills. You will need to be proactive in troubleshooting and problem-solving, upbeat, enthusiastic and motivated. You will be a demonstrated self-starter who is focused and calm under pressure.
We are looking for graduates with experience in computer science (web development, programming, or data science); a minimum 2:1 degree-level qualification in maths, computer science, the sciences, or English; demonstrated writing experience such as blogs, newspapers, magazines, or books; good presentation skills; and, Covid allowing, a desire to travel and gain experience working in Mumbai, India.
