Penningtons Manches Cooper are looking to hire a junior paralegal to join it’s Housing team in Basingstoke. 

The Housing team delivers a high quality legal service and this role will predominantly provide support in respect of the sale of shared ownership and outright sales and after sales transaction on behalf of Housing Associations.

This role will also be involved in a varied blend of real estate work including supporting the Portfolio team on large scale secured lending transactions. There may also be opportunities to support the corporate work the team handles. 

The firm operates a hybrid agile working policy allowing employees to work from home (or another UK location) for up to 50% of their time. Individuals can also apply for other flexible working options either at the time of recruitment or during the course of their employment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for undertaking fee-earning work and providing a profitable contribution to the work of the department.
  • Support all aspects of Home Ownership Transactions
  • Ensure compliance with professional duties and the firm’s internal procedures
  • Active participation in business development initiatives
  • To demonstrate required knowledge and keep up to date with developments in the law
  • To manage the billing process and to achieve income targets
  • Participate in firm wide and team specific training sessions

Essential & desirable criteria

  • No specific legal qualification is required but ideally the candidate is be able to demonstrate some relevant experience but not necessarily in Housing Home Ownership.
  • A desire to work in the affordable housing sector with clients that often have clear charitable purposes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage a busy workload and excellent organisational skills
  • Comfortable working under pressure with the ability to plan and prioritise work
  • Appreciation of fee earner needs and constraints; commercially aware
  • Collaborative team member with ability to quickly build relationships with a wide range of people
  • Attention to accuracy and detail
  • Receptive to facilitate and support change
  • Be willing to become involved with business development
