Role overview

We are looking for an entry level engineer eager to undertake Snowflake administration duties as well as pick up Operational duties around alerting, automation and integration of Snowflake services with Sony services hosted within AWS Cloud Infrastructure.
The Snowflake Database Engineer is required to work within the Operations team with the successful applicant responsible for the operations and support of the Business Intelligence platform. They will be required to fit into a highly skilled team and work with limited supervision, under their own initiative.

Based in our London offices, the team provides business intelligence services for various global business units associated with Sony Interactive Entertainment.

 What you’ll be doing

  • Monitoring the data warehouse and being proactive in flagging and addressing any performance or space
  • related issues
  • 1st/2nd line support for the Production Platform
  • Undertaking production releases into the platform
  • Identifying ways to make operational improvements
  • Performance tuning of queries and optimising the platform
  •  Acting as the first line advisory/consulting for end users on ‘How-to’ questions
  • Requires ability to work in a global and multi-cultural environment. Team members are in multiple geographies,
  • resulting in time constraints due to time zones differences and a requirement for occasional travel

What we are looking for

  •  SQL skills
  •  Understand database concepts including query optimisation
  •  Minimum of 2 years Linux experience 
  •  2 years of scripting in python and bash
  •  Strong troubleshooting and problem solving ability
  •  Interpersonal skills including presentation, negotiating, conflict resolution, etc
  •  Strong positive, can-do attitude
  •  Strong communication skill sets. It is vital that the successful candidate can explain complex technical issues in non-technical terms to business stakeholders
  • Communicating effectively to business stakeholders with incident resolution details
  •  Proven abilities to work creatively and analytical in a problem-solving environment
  •  Have a hunger for learning and developing further

 Desirable

  • 1-2 years of database administration experience
  • User Administration (creating new users/housekeeping users)
  • Experience working with Snowflake
  •  Appreciation of emerging and newer technologies in Data Engineering
  •  Knowledge of data warehousing
  • Automation of repetitive tasks through Ansible
  •  Web development / Django
