It’s an exciting time to join one of our Early Careers programmes at QinetiQ. We are always looking for great people to join our team, whether you are taking your first steps in starting a career or you are looking to make a career change, we have a wide range of exciting opportunities for you.

The team

Applied Science

Our Applied Science team are a multi-disciplinary team who are involved on a range of critical Customer projects and our work encompasses world-leading research (exploring the ‘art of the possible’) to comprehensive evaluation and testing of systems and components - as well as supporting the training of Service personnel. Our work can involve the modelling of scenarios, but, a key part of your work is likely to involve working in laboratories and facilities which are often unique in the work undertaken and safe-working in these areas is paramount.

Our EM & Acoustics Group works at the forefront of science & technology in the world of applied physics, mathematics, engineering and material science. In our Group, we develop novel technologies and carry out research, development and experimentation for both commercial partners and the UK Ministry of Defence. Our work is critical to advancing the technologies and materials available as well as their application to the end user.

The primary focus of our Year in Industry Applied Physics and Applied Engineering roles are to work with our core teams to investigate material options and their respective performance when subjected to customer-specific operational scenarios. This can range from the identification of suitable materials to be used to repair damage underwater; to inspection and quality assurance compliance testing of supply chain products to validate their readiness for operational usage. Another avenue of work is to improve the breadth of testing capabilities offered by QinetiQ to customers both existing and new to make sure we keep pace with an ever evolving world.

Neither the Applied Physics nor Applied Engineering roles are purely one or the other – affording the successful candidate the opportunity to gain and apply knowledge from across the STEM spectrum to a wide range of project scenarios and customer requirements.
