This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate with a Computer Science/Software Engineering degree or similar to work as a Software Engineer within the Air Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) team, part of the wider Weapons and Sensors business unit at Harlow in Essex.

The role is to provide support across Raytheon’s range of products, providing Software Engineering expertise across the product lifecycle, from requirements capture, Analysis, Design through to testing and qualification activities.

Training in all areas of Software Engineering will be made available to the successful candidate. This includes:

  • Requirements management
  • Software Modelling using UML and other tools used for Software Development Testing. From simple software prototypes to assisting in the development of large Software Systems.

Main duties

The role will provide support to the Software Design Authority and Software Engineering Teams with the development and management of project requirements, generation of technical documentation. Software Analysis and Software Design including Software modelling through to code and Test. Participation in technical design reviews will also be required. Further, supporting the Software Teams in Integration and Testing both on simulation platforms and real production Hardware.

The role will be based at Raytheon’s Harlow facility and the successful candidate will have access to professional development opportunities and be part of the growing Raytheon Technologies team, where the candidate will be required to undertake development studies and investigation activities involving product performance and interfacing with various internal Engineering stakeholders.

The role will involve working in a highly technical environment, supporting the team as well as working autonomously. Taking on complex challenges and producing a solution that follows company process in a timely manner is an essential part of the role. A successful candidate will be comfortable integrating into a large team to accomplish their goals.

There will be travel required for training and business travel either in the UK or possibly internationally as required by the business.

Candidate requirements


  • Minimum 2.2 Degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or similar undergraduate degree (already achieved or will complete by 2nd September 2024)
  • 120 UCAS points achieved through A Level/AS Level e.g. BBB/ABC/A*CC A Level grades or equivalent e.g. Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers, BTEC etc achieved through qualifications completed before attending university.

  • Flexible to travel in the UK and abroad as required for business travel
  • The successful applicant will be required to complete a UK SC Security application
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking & decision-making skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving and innovation skills.
  • An understanding of the Engineering/Software lifecycles
  • An understanding of UML/SysML
  • Driven individual with a desire to learn.
  • Attention to detail.


  • Experience of Software modelling using CASE tools (Computer Aided Software Engineering) and various programming language with particular reference to C/C++
  • Understanding of Software Development and product lifecycles.
  • Member/student member - of a professional institution such as IET, IMechE, INCOSE etc.
