SLB's Research Center based in Cambridge is part of SLB global network of research and engineering centres. Our research center is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.

SLB's Research Center based in Cambridge is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England. This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building. Altogether, there are more than 930 m2; of laboratory space and offices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts.

Job summary

SLB’s research laboratory in Cambridge hosts a number of interns, who make a valuable contribution to our research. It is our intention that they receive a superior training experience that increases their scientific and general professional skills.

We have an internship vacancy within the ‘Energy Storage’ department. The purpose of the role is to lead the Battery Material research for the development of the next generation batteries. Using state-of-the-art facilities, you will be actively involved in developing new battery materials.

Deliverables

  • Characterise and evaluate battery materials electrochemically, including a systematic examination of critical factors in active material synthesis
  • Analysis and interpretation experimental datasets
  • Regular team and management reports and presentations
  • Assist with the laboratory housekeeping
  • Adhere to and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) in accordance with the highest safety requirements

Qualification

  • You must be studying towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, electrochemistry, materials science or a related field.
