    SLR's Civil and Structural Engineering team in Edinburgh have an exciting summer placement opportunity for a 3rd/4th Civil Engineering year student looking to gain experience working in a leading environmental consultancy.

    The role

    The placement is for a 10 week period, commencing in early June 2024, however exact dates/duration shall be confirmed with the successful candidate.

    The candidate will be given the opportunity to support our team on a wide variety of projects across the renewable energy, waste and recycling and environmental engineering sectors as we contribute to Making Sustainability Happen. The work shall be varied from design through to site supervision, giving the successful candidate an insight not only into consultancy but also interesting and varied projects that help support our clients.

    We like to think that what set's SLR out against some other consultants is our variety of projects and there varied durations. A short placement with SLR over the summer will allow you to be involved in some projects from start to finish, giving you a real sense of understanding of the process behind a project.

    In addition, to working within the Civil and Structural Engineering team, SLR's One Team culture encourages supporting other technical disciplines through out the company. This approach allows individuals to understand and learn about other technical disciplines and how these link across projects. This allows people to develop holistic approaches to projects.

    The successful applicant will report to, and work closely with, Engineers in our Edinburgh office, however depending on the project workload, there may be a requirement to work on active construction sites throughout Scotland as well.

    About you

    You should:

    • Be in the 3rd or 4th year of your Civil Engineering degree, with a general understanding of Civil Engineering principals;
    • Be able to demonstrate you can work independently, are organised and a logical thinker;
    • Be numerate and confident with data and IT literate with excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
    • Have a willingness to learn and ability to cope with working on different types of projects simultaneously.

    Due to the nature of the work a full driving license valid in the UK is required.
