    Role Description

    Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd are recruiting an Electrical Manufacturing Engineering placement student who will be based in Ipswich in the United Kingdom. In this position, you will assist with the implementation of new hybrid and electric-powered turf care equipment, determine test and assembly processes, diagnose failures, implement improvement activities to ensure robust solutions are implemented, and help resolve warranty problems associated with new and existing equipment. You will also be responsible for solving a variety of technical problems of moderate to difficult scope and complexity and ensure projects are executed per the agreed upon timing, cost, quality, and product requirements.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Implement hybrid and electric-powered turf care equipment and integrate associated systems and components;
    • Diagnose faults on vehicles involving (but not limited to) the following systems/components: Micro-Controllers, inductive sensors, DC/AC motors, DC generators, converters, linear actuators, complex electrical harnesses - including low and high power cable designs, and CAN-bus;
    • Working knowledge of the following electrical standards: UL 583, EN 1175-1, ANSI B56.1 (safety standards for electric industrial vehicles) and ANSI/NFPA 70-1 993 (National Electrical Code) a plus;
    • Develop and utilize project timelines for engineering tasks;
    • Act as member of team to develop and utilize PFMEA’s for components and assemblies;
    • Develop testing methods for new electric/ hybrid vehicles/ components;
    • Develop efficient line layouts to suit assembly of pure EV and mixed model lines.
    • Implement Change Orders relating to EVs
    • Resolve and document test issues/failures using the 8D process;
    • Perform design for assembly and manufacturing assessments on components and assemblies;
    • Possess and demonstrate skills that provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate to difficult scope and complexity. Solutions should show elements of uniqueness and creativity;
    • Possess and demonstrate a complete understanding and general application of electrical engineering principles theories, concepts and techniques;
    • Implement robust root cause corrective action techniques to provide solutions to issues and improvements to the manufacturing practices within the plant.
    • Work under general supervision and follow established procedures, but also show independent thinking in problem resolution;
    • Work with teams and be able to demonstrate issues/ solutions to staff at all levels.
    • Responsible for complying with all federal, state and local laws as well as internal policies, as outlined, and any other applicable policies and regulations, and ensuring your direct reports comply with these laws and policies;
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Skills/Experience Required

    • You should be enrolled on a Bachelor’s/Integrated Master’s Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (or Manufacturing Engineering with Electrical Options), with the opportunity to complete a 12-month placement;
    • Experience with electrical systems design and hybrid/ pure electric vehicles or equipment is desirable;
    • Self-motivating and able to work with low levels of supervision to defined objectives;
    • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
