Purpose of the role

To support the design, development, manufacture and test of electronics hardware and assemblies within MMS Hardware Engineering discipline as required. Initially the role is within the mine warfare portfolio. Electro-Mechanical Engineers are involved throughout the product engineering lifecycle, from initial design concepts through to supporting production and in-service product support. Responsibilites include working on programmes to develop and update deliverable equipment such as sonar electronics and hardware.

Principal relationships

  • Reporting to the Portfolio Hardware Engineering Manager, keeping them informed of challenges, successes and issues.
  • Reporting on the resolution of production/test issues to the relevant Operations teams. Inform the relevant Work Package Manager for allocated tasks.
  • Peer to peer knowledge sharing; learn from others and develop individual and collective experience.
  • Liaise with Manufacturing Engineering and other technical disciplines including materials, systems, electronic and mechanical engineering.

Key responsibilities and tasks

  • To support the design, development, qualification and production of MMS electronics hardware.
  • Involvement in the full engineering (Design Develop and Qualify Solution (DDQS)) lifecycle from design, development, supporting integration and qualification activites, production and delivery. Involvement in design for cost/manufacture activities and producing technical reports as required to support deliveries.
  • Working collaboratively with Operations to support the production and test of deliverable hardware.
  • To complete activities in accordance with company procedures and security regulations, taking responsibility for health and safety.
  • Take responsibility for continuous personal development, with support from the Portfolio Hardware Engineering Manager, to build a fulfilling career development path within Hardware Engineering.

Desirable

  • Knoweldge of electronic hardware and assemblies, sonar and acoustic transducer hardware, RF antennae and analogue hardware.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with hardware/electrical equipment design, testing or production in an appropriate engineering, manufacturing or scientific field. For example electrical and electronic engineering, physics, manufacturing and manufacturing engineering, product/equipment testing, mechanical or electrical engineering.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Electronics engineering and the design and development of electronic hardware.
  • Experience working on RF electronics, analogue circuiry, RF antenna.
  • The design of equipment for the sub-sea environment.
