As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will primarily be responsible for all the commercial and operational aspects of a portfolio of suppliers. You will join one of our established and expanding Commercial Teams, and throughout your career at Thames Water, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects ranging in value from £25,000 to £200,000,000.
You will be commercially ensuring Thames Water meets all its contractual, legal and commercial obligations whilst engaging and advising professional service colleagues such as Senior Management Accountants and Operations Managers.
What you’ll be doing as an assistant quantity surveyor
- Taking the Commercial lead on a portfolio of suppliers working off a SoR-based contract.
- Advising project stakeholders of commercial-related issues.
- Assisting senior staff in monthly commercial meetings.
- Calculating and reporting monthly VOWD position to the business finance partner.
- Assisting with the dispute resolution process.
- Assisting with contractual claims.
- Managing the assessment and certification of monthly Applications for Payments. (AFP)
- Processing subcontract payments on SAP & Salesforce.
Base Location – This is a Hybrid role based within the Thames Water area. The base location will depend on your location and the closest Thames Water site.
What you should bring to the role
- Qualification within Quantity Surveying studies.
- Experience in Quantity Surveying within a commercial setting.
- Experience in Commercial Administration or QS within the construction sector is desirable.
- Previous experience of dealing with suppliers and contractors as a customer.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Good numeracy.
- Excellent written skills.
- A driving licence is desirable but not essential.

- Travel will be required 1-2 times per week (dependent on business requirements) within the Thames Water estate to conduct site audits, attend contractor meetings and general site engagement.
