Business development is an essential part of any business. As scientists bring new solutions and products to life, the business development teams take these and introduces them to the wider world.

CCDC provides data and software in many industries including pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and functional materials. We need a Business Development Assistant to help us reach more scientists around the globe. You’ll be a science graduate or studying a science subject and have a keen interest in drug discovery. Most of all you’ll be a confident communicator, able to identify opportunities and happy to reach out.

This 12-month placement will introduce you to all areas of business development within the science industry with a specific focus on new business development and prospecting.

Role purpose

The Business Development Assistant will support the Commercial team in expanding the global reach and customer base of the organisation. To be successful in this role, the job holder will be a graduate or studying a chemical, biological or pharmaceutical science with a strong interest in drug discovery and want to develop a career in sales and marketing. They should be a confident communicator and keen to learn different aspects of business development.

The job holder will be able to work as part of the Commercial team and liaise with other teams where necessary, completing tasks alone or with colleagues to support the overall CCDC business development effort. Experience in a customer facing or sales roles is advantageous but not essential as is familiarity with tools such as LinkedIn. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Proactively seek new business opportunities by generating leads and nurturing warm prospects.
  • Take responsibility for the prospecting activities and identify best practices to refine lead generation activities.
  • Manage and maintain a pipeline of interested prospects, book meetings, engage colleagues for next steps and record activities in CRM.
  • Build long-term, trusting relationships with prospects and customers. 
  • Increase understanding of the market to identify how our solutions meet needs and keep abreast of market trends through various channels including attending industry relevant events.
  • Assist the Commercial team with day-to-day tasks to support business development activities.
  • Ad-hoc duties to support the other work of the organisation.
