    About the role

    The purpose of the Environmental Performance team is to ensure the business complies with all of its permitted and reporting regulatory requirements, whilst supporting the business with governance, management information and data insights to operational performance allowing continuous improvement across all areas of the operational business.

    Your placement with Environmental Performance could cover a variety of projects across different teams depending on your skills and interests and the needs of the business at the time. Examples of the kinds of things we're working on are:

    • Pollution performance – help turn our strategic Pollution Incident Reduction Plan into action to see our frontier performance continue, work on projects designed to make us more resilient to power outages and help operational teams visualise their performance so they can make better intervention decisions.
    • Clean Water – taking water from the environment for drinking water is vital for life, but we need to make sure we don't take too much. Working in this area you will learn about abstraction and compensation regulations and help us improve our performance in this area.

    During your placement, under the guidance of your buddy and manager, you will gain an overview of the type of work undertaken, moving around the team to gain experience of all relevant aspects.

    Who you are

    United Utilities is looking for undergraduate with digital & analytical skills, an interest in the environment and a passion for learning. The successful applicant will have an interest in planning and project management and an awareness of United Utilities and the wider water industry.

    To apply you need to:

    • Be working towards at least a 2:2 in a degree
    • Have researched and have knowledge of United Utilities' activities.
    • Have varied technical knowledge, not only through academic experience, but also through social and professional experience.
    • Have a strong foundation at A-level.
    • Have good computer skills particularly in Microsoft Office /Tableau.
    • Be motivated and enthusiastic, an excellent team player, possessing ambition and drive.
    • Possess good written, presentation and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and influence across all levels.
    • Be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to set deadlines, as well as being able to prioritise your time.
