Graduate Veterinary Surgeon Graduate Development Programme Darlington 2024

Darlington Vets for Pets is looking for a new or recently graduated vet to join their team and our award-winning graduate scheme.

The role

Darlington Vets for Pets is located on the outskirts of Darlington town centre, 1 mile from the train station and under 10 minutes from the A1 which makes is suitable for those commuting from further afield. Darlington is under half an hour from Middlesbrough and an hour from Whitby on the coast for the perfect day off adventure.

Inside the practice itself, we have 4 consult rooms as well as high quality imaging modalities including dental x-ray. Our practice also benefits from natural lighting and due to the spacious nature of the practice there is also a large colleague area which has been recently refurbished and an outside balcony, which supports our colleague’s wellbeing at work.

Practice owner Leigh has over 30 years’ experience in the Veterinary world as a Veterinary Nurse and she is supported by a team of 4 Vets, 6 additional RVN’s, 2 SVN’s, 6 Receptionists and 1 Practice Manager. Lead Vet Amy has a special interest in ultrasonography, many of our vets and nurses hold additional certificates, and we are willing to support any interests you may bring to our team. We have 15-minute consults, with 30- minutes allocated where needed and dedicated admin time put aside to do paperwork outside of consults to allow our vets appropriate time to work up their cases. Monthly vet clinical meetings give the opportunity to discuss cases, review protocols and possible new products.

With genuine support and emphasis on your wellbeing, you can realise and maintain your full potential in an environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance too.

You’ll be supported from day one by a dedicated mentor/Vet GDP Advisor, you’ll also be able to take paid leave to attend the varied CPD programme designed by vets specifically for new graduates. As you build your confidence in caring for pets and their owners, you’ll grow your own client base and see the continuity of cases with the support of your wider team. You won’t be in sole charge of cases until you’re ready.

The role is full time with 1 in 4 Saturday rota (mornings only 8am – 12pm), there is no OOH and we are closed on a Sunday and Bank Holidays.

As a standard on the Graduate Development Programme we offer a 2 year programme with no financial tie-ins, guaranteed starting salary of at least £34,000 per annum with reviews each year on programme, 10-12 clinical/non-clinical structure CPD days a year with covered travel costs, access to wellbeing support and free membership of wellbeing app and support with practice transfer should the need to arise.
