We are seeking interested applicants to have achieved or be expected to achieve a 2:1 in a Quantity Surveying degree – that’s it!.... no prior experience needed.

Your Graduate scheme

Starting in September 2024, you'll join as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, giving you relevant hands-on experience from day one through a structured learning programme and commercially focused placement rotation, giving you the experience and skills to develop strong commercial acumen.

Over the course of approximately 2 years, you will rotate around the business to see how the different sections operate, communicate, and interlink; visiting sites, learning about health and safety, project management and governance process and procedures. As part of the Graduate placement, you will also be involved with the wider Welsh Water Graduate Programme, so will have the opportunity to Network and develop your skills alongside graduates at the same stage of their career as you, but within different departments.

Your role will include:

  • Assist in the commercial administration, reporting and performance on Welsh Water’s Delivery Programme.
  • Create and review reports produced by internal cost systems.
  • Assist in the procurement of Subcontract partners including preparation of bid enquiry documentation and critical evaluation of bids.
  • Prepare contract documentation.
  • Administration of contracts and works packages including, interim assessments, certification and change management.
  • Assist in the management of change in accordance with the form of contract, including the production and submission of Compensation Event Quotations and the maintenance of detailed schedules of value
  • Collate and calculate information required to assist the Commercial team in the production and maintenance of a detailed project forecasts.
  • Attend site to develop construction knowledge to have the ability to challenge cost and forecast.

In addition, you will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects with your fellow graduates, such as organising, developing and running a conference event for the Institute of Water. This will allow you to develop your interpersonal and leadership skills, whilst working collaboratively with your peers.

You will also be given the opportunity to work on key business projects within your specialised field.

Good to know

We have opportunities available in South-East and South-West Wales. However, on occasions and with notice you may be expected to travel to sites across the whole of Wales and its borders.

Recruitment process - Upon application, you will receive a short behavioural assessment to complete. This should take 15-20 minutes. Should your application meet our criteria, the second stage of assessment will be an in-person assessment centre between February/March 2024. Further information will be provided closer to the time.
