Making an Impact: Charity at Thurn Partners

We caught up with Marie Treharne, Chair of the Charity Committee at Thurn Partners, to hear more about the team’s partnership with Radical Recruit, their creative fundraising efforts, and why giving back is such an important part of life at the firm.

Tell us about your role as Chair of the Charity Committee

As Chair of the Charity Committee, my role predominantly involves coordinating volunteering efforts with our partnered charity for the year, and organising the event lineup in order to hit our fundraising targets. Everyone in the committee is very hands-on and collaborative, so more often than not, my job is just to make sure our idea generation meetings actually end on time. We’d probably need a whole extra day to get through them all… but we try!

Why is this important to you?

The partnerships and fundraising that we do at Thurn Partners is something that matters to me on a personal level. This year, we are working closely with Radical Recruit, a fantastic charity that focuses on supporting those who have experienced hardship or vulnerability (whether that is homelessness, incarceration or otherwise) go into full-time employment.

Knowing people firsthand who have struggled with this issue, being able to work closely alongside the team at Radical in the form of raising awareness and volunteering is so important to me, and given our expertise in the market and understanding what hiring managers look for, this is a collaboration that is near and dear to a lot of us here at Thurn Partners.

What takes place, and has the committee achieved so far?

We have a strong lineup of fundraising events for this year, which is super exciting! We have done a really successful bake sale so far, and we are getting creative with some events such as a Casino Night, Wine & Cheese evenings, and making full use of our Rewards Wheel. Our main fundraising event later this year is the 15km Tough Mudder, which will be a tough but meaningful day for the team. We have also recently decided to walk the ‘16 bridges’ walk across London (from Tower Bridge to Putney Bridge) in fancy dress to raise funds, which should be good fun and hopefully will help us get closer to hitting our fundraising target!

All volunteers go through a volunteering induction day with Radical Recruit, which allows us to understand how we can provide support with CV building, interview prep and other skill-building exercises.

What plans does the committee have for the future?

For now, our plans for the future is to focus on supporting Radical Recruit the best way we can - through fundraising, and volunteering with them to provide their ‘Radicals’ the highest chance to get into work. Working as a team is one of our core values at Thurn Partners, and by partnering with a homegrown charity every year, this allows us to work closely with those who need support, and to give back to the community. With our incoming Associates, we want to give them the opportunity to get involved too, so my time will be filled with coming up with exciting events come September!
