Abbey is a Business Management and Marketing student from the University of Leeds. She secured a summer internship at Kraft Heinz through Bright Network.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.
“Growing up, I’ve always been very self-motivated and possessed an entrepreneurial spirit. I knew I always wanted to work in a company which was dynamic and presented the opportunity to be constantly learning."
"The FMCG industry, particularly the food industry has appealed to me from a young age. After setting up a business in secondary school, I was inspired to study a business management and marketing degree."
"I’ve always been a people oriented individual and love networking and meeting new individuals, which is also why I wanted to do a degree where I’d have the opportunity to study abroad for the year.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“The dynamic nature and organisational culture at Kraft Heinz were big motivators.
The summer intern position was cross-functional which also meant I could explore different parts of the business.”
What was your application journey like?
“To prepare it was essential for me to develop an understanding of the food industry, so I followed market trends surrounding the FMCG industry.
I was quite nervous about the video interview, which was very daunting to me!”

“I attended the LGBTQ+ insight day that increased my commercial awareness and exposed me to a diverse range of connections.”
What have you learned from going through the process?
“Having a growth mindset is important. It’s also important to find an organisation which embodies your core values. This intrinsic motivation really fuels your ambition to thrive within the workplace.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“I’d really recommend attending virtual insights days. I found the one I attended incredibly useful.
Also, if a society hosts an event with an employer or industry you’re keen to get stuck into, join it! These one-on-one connections and conversations really helped me.”
