Graduate insight into securing a Training Contract with Linklaters - Top tips from Scott, an Incoming Trainee Solicitor

Created on 20 Dec 2017

We recently caught up with Bright Network member Scott, who, whilst studying Land Economy at the University of Cambridge, has secured himself a training contract at Linklaters - a magic circle firm. Read about his experience below.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

Linklaters came across as being the most welcoming of the five magic circle firms. It also seemed to be focused on promoting diversity, which I am very passionate about.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

For me, the hardest parts of the process were the various rounds of interviews, more specifically, having to prepare for each of them in quick succession. However, meeting all of the fantastic and interesting people both on the vacation scheme and in the firm was definitely the best part. The food was also fantastic!

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was surprised how friendly and down to earth the partner who interviewed me was in the final interview.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Tip 1: Be yourself.

Tip 2: Do your research.

Tip 3: Be interested.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

Lucky underwear!
