Graduate insight into securing an internship with BlackRock

Created on 24 Apr 2018

Huge congratulations to Charlotte on securing her role with BlackRock. Here she gives us some useful insights to the recruitment process and offers some tips for future applicants.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?:

I went to Blackrock's Women Networking event which really sold the firm to me in terms of its success and attitudes. I spoke to people in various teams to figure out where my skills would be most valuable and narrowed it down to Relationship Management.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?:

The toughest part of the application process was the video interview as all my answers were recorded and I wasn't faced with a real person on my screen. It was quite off-putting.

My favourite part was realising that my interview was much more of a conversation than a test.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was surprised that there were no online tests.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

1. Try to find links with the interviewers such as from your background, schooling or experiences.

2. Prepare as much as you can by going online and speaking to people you know who have had a similar hiring process.

3. Be as honest as possible

What was the toughest question you faced at interview?

Why Asset Management rather than Investment Banking?
