Securing a graduate role with Deloitte - Top tips from Faran

Created on 19 Oct 2017

We caught up with Faran at the Bright Network Festival, who has just been hired an as associate by Deloitte. He was happy to share a little bit about how he found the application process.

Why did you choose an Associate role at Deloitte?

I chose Deloitte because of its global presence and because it is in constant contact with companies very high up the FTSE index. The progression is great and the chance to get the ACA qualification is the icing on the cake. The work culture and the actual work you do is interesting and varied. You're always based at client offices and constantly talking to a range of clients, which makes every audit project exciting.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The first round interview stage was certainly the most tough, as it’s based on a set of competencies that you need to display during the interview. Reporting on a case study that you have never seen before makes it that much more difficult. I would also say that this stage and the partner interview are also the most enjoyable stages, as you can really show off your personality and character. It's a chance for you to showcase how good you are, and that's the best part. It's also a great learning curve.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

The nature of the partner interview was somewhat surprising. I expected it to be a very structured interview, but it’s more of a discussion. The partner was more interested in me as a person, what drives me and whether I could cope with a demanding graduate scheme. Definitely a lot more enjoyable then I initially thought it would be.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Do your research, do your research, do your research.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

I have to wear a navy and white spotted tie for every stage that I've had for years.
