Securing a role in Audit with Deloitte - Top tips from Stephanie

Created on 12 Jun 2016

Final year Cambridge Classics student, Steph had a chat with us about her experience with Deloitte and why you don't need a maths degree to be in Audit.

How did you decide on Deloitte?

I actually got a call from Bright Network recommending the role for me which was amazing, as I was previously a bit undecided.

Audit was really appealing to me because of the qualification you gain through it. Funnily enough my parents had both done the same role in Deloitte, so I felt that audit was a good way to learn about business with a view to heading into consulting

How did you prepare?

For my case study presentation, I did lots of research on Deloitte and the issues they are facing. I focused on the 7 Deloitte competencies and matched my life experiences to them so I was ready to speak confidently about them. I was also really lucky that I go to attend the Bright Network Festival a week before my interview, I found Gwyn Day’s talk really helpful and I used a lot of his techniques such as reading the FT and being knowledgeable about professional services. He was really on it and to the point, which motivated me to be organised about the preparation process.

Branch out

I found out that really, they’re looking for rounded people who fit the company and can be themselves. If you can, do some charity work or fundraising – in short, something where you’re working in a team and leading. Not only can you use this in your competencies but also you’ll be able to have something interesting to chat about with your interviewer.
