Lewis' success story: Securing a training contract at Moore Kingston Smith

    Created on 24 May 2025

Lewis is an Economics graduate from the University of Cambridge. He secured a training contract as a Tax Trainee at Moore Kingston Smith in London, through Bright Network.

First, please tell us a bit about yourself.

“I consider myself a self-driven and motivated individual who aims to achieve my potential both personally and professionally.

This is why I decided to work in a training role, as it would enable me to expand my skill set and gain two additional challenging qualifications.”

What motivated you to apply for your role?

“I chose this company due to the focus on staff as the centre of the operation, the ability to make a real difference with the work I do, and to feel that I would matter within the company.

The role in tax seemed the most involved and technically challenging, which is why I chose this path.”

What was the application process like?

“There were two interviews, one included a SWOT analysis presentation which I didn't expect, but it was fun to theorise and it gave me a lot of room to bring my own ideas into it.”

The second interview was more of a chat with a partner, manager and current trainee to learn more about the business and ask questions. Everyone was exceptionally kind and friendly throughout.”

What are you most proud of about your journey?

“I’m most proud of my ability to continue growing professionally and personally.

I’ve always strived to fulfil my potential, and I feel as though my current role is helping me to grow and continue developing new skills.”

What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

“My main advice is to be yourself and make sure you put the work in and engage with the process.

I would also recommend researching working and studying to decide for yourself if it's something for you, as it can be stressful in theory and isn't like university or school in terms of expectations.”

Tell us about the future. What’s next?

“I’m very much enjoying my day-to-day work, getting involved in various areas of the business from the tax perspective and exploring both compliance and advisory tax work.

I’m excited to continue advancing through the qualifications and the role, expanding my knowledge and achieving the best I can.”
