Bright Network member Amy graduated from Durham this year after studying Law. Now, she has successfully secured a Training Contract with Dentons, which she will start in 2019. Amy shares her top tips and experience of the application process below!
What drew you to apply for Dentons?
I worked for one of Dentons’ clients during an internship within property and investments. I saw how Dentons dealt with the company and really liked them and how they worked.
What was the most enjoyable and most challenging part of the application process?
It was a challenging process overall, as there were more aspects to the application process than other firms. There was the online application form, followed by online tests. Then there was a pre-interview at the office, then an assessment day, which included more interviews. I really enjoyed the interview before the assessment day, as I got to visit the firm and get a real feel of the culture - it was fun!
What would be your top three tips for members looking to follow in your footsteps?
- Firstly, I would research the firm, the people and the clients they work for very thoroughly.
- Secondly, I would go with your gut feeling and make sure you are comfortable with your choices. Know what you want and make good informed decisions - don’t stress about it, just relax.
- Thirdly, get experience in either law or in the area that you find interesting, and throw yourself into work. I wanted to work in property, so I got experience from the other side of the legal relationship.
How did you find the Bright Network Festival?
I attended the Bright Network Festival and met Dentons there. It gave me a chance to get a real understanding of the people that work there. The festival was a really useful event with everyone in one place. When I met Dentons there, I had the opportunity to discuss their Training Contract, the process of the vacation scheme and how to make good, direct applications.
