Find out more about IT Consulting

We recently caught up with Minhaal Manji to discuss his experience of what starting a career in IT Consultancy at Alfa.

Here's what he had to say...

"University presented a huge range of career options, but none had quite the day-to-day challenge of working closely with high-profile clients and delivering real changes to improve their business processes as IT consulting does.

A little over a year ago, I began my career in IT consulting as a graduate with Alfa. I underwent a thorough training course which provided me with the skills and tools to become a consultant.

Ever since, I’ve been working at different clients based around London, which has allowed me to meet and work with lots of new people, both at Alfa and in the wider industry. Working in a small dynamic team has enabled me to gain industry exposure, assume responsibilities and deliver real business change. I’ve been given the chance to gain new skills and grow as a consultant throughout my career at Alfa.

On a day-to-day basis, I discuss business processes with my client and design ways to streamline those processes and be more efficient. Analysis of the changes can lead to enhancing IT software or leveraging current systems to restructure the process, while always aiming to provide real benefits to the client. Currently, I’m working on a large project which will take over 200 working days to deliver. The project has involved liaising with other IT firms as well as different streams of the client’s business. As a recent graduate, being able to work on such a large project so early on, as well as being involved in the planning and implementation, has been an incredible experience.

IT consulting is a technically challenging industry. However, Alfa does not require graduates to have technical programming or computing backgrounds, and this allows for a diverse and varied workforce. I had studied Mathematics at university and the challenge to be able to learn new programming methods and computing ideas allows me to continue learning new skills throughout my graduate career."
