Elliot Kelly

The Health Foundation’s internship programme was such a brilliant experience. I developed valuable skills, got fantastic opportunities for personal and professional development, and worked alongside a wonderful group of not just interns, but wider colleagues. It’s given me a great head-start into the world of working for a charity and in health research (which I’d never been exposed to before). I can’t recommend it enough!
Here's some incredible standouts from Elliot's time:

This year, I have had the opportunity to work on projects that fascinate me, sat at the table during politically disruptive discussions and rubbed shoulders with decision makers.
There have been so many OMG moments, it’s only now, when I recount my day to family members, that I remember what a unique experience I've had.
I’ve also made some incredible connections across the Foundation. I’m especially grateful for my fellow interns who remind me that there’s always a place for silliness, and that trying something new and being uncomfortable can be scary but also possibly the best thing for you. Work should not be a synonym for boring!
So much of my internship was about learning. I’ve learned new professional skills, gained knowledge of a whole new sector, and learned more about myself, who I want to be, and what I want to do with each passing day.

One of my biggest takeaways from my time in Q was the power of collaboration. Working alongside such a diverse group of health care professionals helped me realise that every conversation, every connection, no matter how brief, has the potential to spark change.

I … thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the staff networks and clubs, such as the Disability and Carers Network, the Social Club, and the Mental Health Network. I have found it incredibly rewarding taking part in events like the Colleague Conference, ‘cheerleading’ at the Softball Game (yes, they won!), networking at the King’s Fund Mingle, supporting the World Mental Health Day Coffee Morning and helping with the festive party.
These opportunities have allowed me to connect with colleagues from across the organisation in meaningful ways, boosting both my personal and professional growth. It has not only helped me to build my confidence in conversing and collaborating with others but has also enriched my understanding of different perspectives in the workplace.
