TikTok’s values

TikTok’s values are a set of work styles and methods shared by all employees, aiding them in the pursuit of a common mission and vision.

Their values are:

Always day one

This reminds us to keep an entrepreneurial mindset whilst also being humble and not complacent about past achievements

Value in action:

“Always Day 1 reminds us to keep an entrepreneurial mindset, be humble and take on every new challenge that comes along. I always try to maintain a positive and have a fresh mindset. One way I put this Bytestyle into action is through initiative. Throughout the graduate program, I have been able to oversee and takeover different roles within the team, so it’s always important to have a ‘Day 1’ mentality that will help you take in and establish new information, responsibilities, tasks and relationships. Not only have I been given the opportunity to have these different experiences, but I have found a space within my team where I can be of value and help others, towards a common goal.”

 - Nicole, Graduate, Spain.

Champion diversity and inclusion

As a company that aims to serve global users, a diverse and inclusive working environment is key to ensuring TikTok listen to and learn from different perspectives and practices. This is achieved by valuing and celebrating individual differences, focusing on people's unique strengths and facilitating effective collaboration by assuming good intent and trusting by default.

Value in action:

“Being part of the Women@TikTok and BytePride employee resource groups at TikTok have really helped me immerse myself in the company culture, be exposed to opportunities outside of my day-to-day role and meet new people. Opportunities I've had through both networks include mentoring, in-person social events, creator talks and informative Q&A's about specific topics/challenges. A highlight for me was the BytePride Vogue Ball event celebrating London Pride. I've admired vogue balls for a long time but never thought I'd get the chance to go to one. The BytePride group not only gave me the opportunity to attend one, but going with the supportive network, I felt way more comfortable attending with the group and had so much fun!”

Be candid and clear

Being accurate, concise and straightforward is the most effective way of communicating. TikTok want to drive communication and form conclusions with facts, instead of assumptions or emotions.

Seek proof and be pragmatic

This bytestyle emphasises being an independent thinker in order to get to the bottom of things and distilling ideas down to their fundamental truths. It involves deep diving into facts, seeking direct experience and first-hand data and information.

Be courageous and aim for the highest

TikTok want people to take calculated risks for bigger gains with a focus on return on investment by exploring alternative solutions in a larger scope for the optimal result. They always aim for a high standard and ensure to execute with excellence.

Value in action:

“I was assigned to a project working on analytics to determine projections on certain products for the next quarter. As I worked my way through it, I realized there is an existing gap where we hadn’t taken certain essential variables into account which were vital to driving growth and opportunity in the business. I started my research, apportioned my free time into working on this, attended product teams’ meetings, documented by findings, discussed it with my manager, presented my work and just like that, my proposal was accepted!

Despite this being outside my area of responsibilities, I showed courage and resolve, went above and beyond my domain of work, volunteered to come forward and worked on a project by diving deep into the problem and came out with the solution that would hekp the company reduce costs via data driven decision making! Anticipating concerns before they are addressed, transforming problems into opportunities, manifesting grit and resilience in the face of adversity – these are the principles I live by as I work here at TikTok and hope to continue doing so”

Grow together

We live and are driven by our mission and vision. It's important to show patience and resilience in the face of short-term fluctuations by solving problems together. It's important that we keep learning, pushing boundaries and mutually grow with the organisation.
