About the role

The Placement Internship is a year-long programme which offers an excellent entry point into the Investment Management industry. The internship will run for one year from July 2025 with positions available across a wide range of departments. As a Placement Intern, you will be an integral part of the team and be given a wide range of responsibilities, helping the firm drive excellence for clients to positively impact millions of beneficiaries’ lives. This programme is for penultimate year undergraduate students who are interested in working in the Investment Management industry. We consider applications from all degree disciplines.

We have opportunities in the following functions: Client Platform, Investment Platform and Infrastructure. More details on the each of the functions below.

Client Platform

Client Group

This division includes business development, relationship management, client service, and marketing functions across all geographies and channels, including institutions, consultants, intermediaries, and wealth managers.

Investment Product & Fund Strategies (IPFS)

Combining investment knowledge, commercial acumen, and vehicle expertise, IPFS is instrumental in developing and managing a product and fund lineup that enhances our ability to attract and retain clients.

Marketing & Communications

The marketing team is responsible for the firm's editorial, communications, design, client programs, and external web efforts. The team is collectively charged with creating and implementing marketing and communication strategies that promote the firm's investment capabilities and thought leadership, foster its global brand, and drive client engagement.

Investment Platform

Corporate Access & Research Services (CARS)

The CARS team works in partnership with our investors by managing and maintaining excellent relationships with corporates and external research providers alike, all while maintaining our firm's compliance with global regulators.

Investment Boutiques

The Investment Boutiques at Wellington are specialized investment teams that operate independently across various asset classes and disciplines, delivering strong, consistent investment results for clients. Each boutique has a high degree of autonomy, allowing portfolio managers to tailor investment decisions to their specific strategies and client needs. This structure fosters innovation and agility, while benefiting from shared insights and resources within Wellington's broader investment platform.

Sustainability

Sustainability function focuses on integrating sustainability into investment strategies and operations. They offer sustainable investment solutions, leverage extensive research, collaborate with investors, engage with clients, provide thought leadership, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Infrastructure

Global Trading

The Trading Department is responsible for the execution and settlement of all trades on behalf of Wellington Managements clients, with strong infrastructure and control environment focus to support the complexities of trading across regulatory regimes.

Investment Services and Technology (InvesTech)

The Investment Services and Technology (InvesTech) mission is to drive Wellington’s innovation and operational edge to exceed the investment and service expectations for our clients and business partners worldwide. We accomplish this by bringing technology and operations together to deliver better, more efficient outcomes. InvesTech comprises of teams such as Investment Implementation, Fund Servicing and Client Service Operations.

Legal, Risk and Compliance

The Legal, Risk, and Compliance teams at Wellington ensure the firm's operations are conducted within legal and regulatory frameworks while managing risks effectively. The Legal team provides legal advice, handles contracts, and manages legal risks. The Risk team identifies and mitigates potential risks, while the Compliance team ensures adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Qualifications

The successful candidates are likely to:

  • Be an undergraduate student eligible for a year-long industrial placement in your penultimate year of study – beginning July 2025.
  • Have skills or experiences which demonstrate an interest in a career within investment management.
  • Be a highly motivated self-starter with a high intellectual curiosity.
  • Be proactive and have the humility and willingness to learn from and collaborate with their colleagues.
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal and organisational skills, be resourceful, detail-oriented, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Able to work independently, in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment, where priorities change frequently.
  • Have strong systems skills, in particular familiarity and versatility in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Language skills would be advantageous but are not required.
