We are currently recruiting for 4 Undergraduate Data Science Interns, to start in June 2022 (dates to be agreed at offer stage) for 12 weeks. These positions will be based in the Corporate Research Systems Laboratory in Bracknell, UK.

An internship is a fixed term position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 12 week assignment. All interns are included in a global Internship program within Corporate Research R&D, working with 3M researchers on current projects in Scrum teams. 3M provides eligible interns with round-trip travel reimbursement in accordance with current policy.

As a Data Science Intern, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Leveraging expertise to support development of new technologies, providing growth opportunities, in addition to supporting existing 3M products, businesses, and operations.
- Optimizing algorithms for computational efficiency, speed, and usability
- Building capabilities with software tools e.g., Microsoft Azure ML and/or AWS ML
- Collaborating with research teams in corporate research and business labs on building capabilities and applications that use his/her scientific and computational skills
- Supporting algorithm development and deploy solutions based on real-world data
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution with a predicted 2:1 minimum.
- Completed at least 2 years study of a bachelor’s degree or 3 years of a master’s degree by summer 2022.
- The right to work in the UK
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience in machine learning, deep learning, data science, computer vision, artificial intelligence, statistics, and/or applied mathematics
- Fluent in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB, C, C++, and/or R)
- Strong problem solving skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
