The role
As part of our growth plan, we have new opportunities for Computer Science/IT or Electrical and Electronic Engineering graduates to join our Process Automation Energy Industries division. To ensure the Service portfolio is delivered effectively according to ABB standard processes and safety guidelines to satisfy customers. Execute technical support, act as specialist and solve problems in own expertise area. Proactively communicate with both the customer and ABB sales teams to ensure customer needs are understood and business opportunities utilized for Service growth. The role will be based in Aberdeen and will require travel to our offices in UK and customer sites (both onshore and offshore). As a graduate engineer your responsibilities will develop in line with the competencies required for the role.
Your responsibilities
- Gain an understanding of ABB’s Industrial Automation systems
- Gain an understanding of ABB’s digital / cloud-based tools and solutions
- Participate in all aspects of the ABB UK Graduate development program
- Work closely with a team of software engineers
- Work closely within an integrated European team of specialist engineers and tools.
- Understand and update existing hardware and software modules for the development and maintenance of ABB’s Control System products
- Understand the challenges of cyber security and making automation systems secure.
- Assist with the integration of ‘digital’ data to local dashboards and higher level systems
- Produce specifications and reports detailing the requirements and features of the products
- Assist with the assurance, integration and testing of hardware and software modules
- Deliver updates to the existing products and create new products through working closely with different stakeholders, including the customer and the end user
- Support Bids and Proposals team in generation of quotations
- Time & budget management as per contract requirements
- Be available on an ‘on call’ basis to advise customers out of hours and, if necessary, make unscheduled site visits
- Advises clients as to maintenance procedures, site planning, operational methods, process measurement and control strategies and schemes
- Promotes sales of maintenance services and equipment, including spare parts, and advises Sales department of possible sales leads
- Regular onshore/offshore site visits to conduct Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance activities
- Manage customer expectations and deliver high quality solutions to all ABB customers
- Drive towards continual improvement
- Constant learning and expansion of knowledge in Technical Aspects, Commercial Aspects and Project Aspects.

Your background
- You will be graduating or have graduated with a degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical or an engineering-based subject
- Have a strong software background
- Have strong control system knowledge
- You will have a willingness to learn and ability to innovate
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- A self-starter with the ability to work on his or her own initiative, plan well and follow through to project completion
- Be flexible and prepared to travel to customer sites
- Aim for a Professional accreditation
- Practical, hands-on experience
- Have working knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, Industrial Networks and Cyber Security
