    In mainland UK, Abbott employs over 2,200 people across multiple sites. Abbott has an R&D and manufacturing centre of excellence in Witney (Oxfordshire), commercial and support operations in Solihull, Maidenhead and Stockport, Laboratories in Abingdon, an Assay production facility in Dundee, and a Nutrition distribution site in Sittingbourne. Abbott began manufacturing in the UK in 1937.

    The role

    Abbott’s Award Winning Professional Development (PDP) Programme is currently inviting applications from final year students / graduates for our 2024 Professional Development Graduate Programme (PDP).

    The scheme will commence in Witney, a Diabetes Care facility part of our Medical Device Division. The Witney site manufactures significant quantities of test strips annually and has also been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the next generation FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, launched in September 2014.

    The Abbott Professional Development Programme (PDP) offers graduates an opportunity to apply and further develop their skills in different areas and divisions at our sites across the UK and abroad over a three-year period. During this time, graduates will rotate through three diverse and challenging 12 month assignments, on the following basis:

    • Year One - Technical rotation
    • Year Two - Supervisory role
    • Year Three - Global Operational Excellence (overseas placement)

    If successful your role could involve working in a variety of Engineering or Science led areas - manufacturing, projects, quality, laboratory, scientific, technical services or research and development.

    From this experience, you will develop a deep understanding of our company as well as develop your management, technical and interpersonal skills. In addition to your development being supported by your assignment manager, you will also be paired with a mentor who will assist you in navigating your career throughout the program.

    About you

    As Abbott’s Professional Development Programme is highly selective & challenging, the following criteria are applicable:

    • 2.1 Bachelor’s degree or higher in STEM field
    • Strong academic performance and extracurricular activity
    • Exceptional Interpersonal skills and track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, initiative and integrity
    • Demonstrable industry based experience in a similar engineering or scientific environment, preferably a year in industry as part of your studies (or equivalent)
    • Ability to learn quickly
    • Flexibility to change location to take up assignments at different Abbott sites including international locations
