    Abbott Diabetes Care have an exciting opportunity for five Student Scientists to join our Research & Development team for an approximately 12-month internship (starting middle of July 2022) at our site in Witney, Oxfordshire.

    The Role

    Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is part of the Medical Devices division. Here at ADC, we design, develop, and manufacture leading-edge blood glucose monitoring technology, including our revolutionary Freestyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, which is used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes.

    Our R&D Department has several ongoing projects, and whilst on placement students will be integrated into one of the teams to support existing and upcoming work. Day to day activities will depend on the nature of the project and team assigned, but typically include prototype fabrication, experimental trials, investigations and testing, data analysis and result interpretation, problem solving, report writing and presentation of the results.

    The role also involves regular interactions with other departments including Statistics, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. Experimental work may involve handling venous and capillary blood samples. To fulfill job requirements, full training, as well as full Health and Safety training in accordance with company policy will be provided.

    Who we're looking for

    The ideal candidate will be a proactive, well organised individual studying for a degree in biology, biomedical science or similar, with an interest in diabetes, biosensors, materials science, and electrochemistry. This role would suit a person with good communication skills who enjoys working on a variety of different projects simultaneously.
