ACE Winches are currently recruiting for a Graduate Engineer. This is a permanent role and involves participating in a rotation through the main areas of the business to gain a broader understanding of how these specific areas interact and affect others. This exposure gives the Graduate the opportunity to find his/her ideal department/area of preference within the business.
Upon completion of the program the Graduate should have the ability to soundly apply theoretical knowledge and practical experience directly to ACE Winches technologies and business demands with a view to fulfilling customer expectations and specific project needs.
Job Roles and Responsibilities
Engineering
- Awareness of Intellectual Property (IP) and the general Patent Process
- Understanding of analysis tools; there applications and limitations
- Basic working knowledge of materials technologies and processes
- Obtain technical information from Suppliers to assist Product Development and ordering via Supply Chain
- Creation of various Engineering Documents – Test Procedures, Functional Design Specifications, etc
- Develop an understanding of internal and external industry standards
Drawing Office
- Understanding of drawing procedures, numbering system and document control processes
- Understanding of Autodesk VAULT for the storage, retrieval and control of Models and drawings and basic operation of AutoCAD drawing package and Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling system.
- Understanding of principles adopted for site surveys, measurement techniques and recording of results.
- Understanding of requirements for fabrication and component drawings including appropriate tolerances, welding symbols, clash detection, assembly limits and fits etc.
- Desktop publishing for rendering of drawings for manuals / reports / brochures etc.
Sales and Proposals
- Review qualifying enquiries and discuss the job with the client to ensure information is correct prior to bidding
- Preparation of proposals and budgetary prices for negotiation with client
- Preparation of design proposals and detailed costing to support the bidding process
- Direct discussions to confirm customer requirements and acceptance of offer
- Receipt and processing of order including confirmation of contract review
- Hand over and liaise with other departments e.g., Hire, Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance
- Gain an understanding of after sales service and support including customer satisfaction surveys / reports (FPAL)
- Learn Terms and conditions of contracts e.g. payment, delivery, LD’s, force majeure etc
Projects
- Understand how projects are handed over from Sales following contract review
- Creation and monitoring of Project budgets, cost control, contract variations, milestone achievements and invoicing
- Understand the significance of correct and timely communications with appropriate stakeholders
- Understanding of project documentation requirements: manuals, certification, 3rd party approval requirements and applicable legislation
- Understanding of project functions during project delivery stage
- Importance of achieving highest level of customer engagement/satisfaction
Assembly
- Understanding of assembly – drawings, Instructions, Test Procedures, Limits and Fits and gear backlash
- Understanding of repair and rebuild processes – disassembly and associated tools, assessment, planning and reporting
- Develop knowledge and understanding of Fasteners, Bearings, Chains, Sprockets, motor drives and couplings, oil seals, ring gears and pinions, and gearboxes – how they are specified and fitted
- Develop knowledge of Lifting & Material Handling techniques
- Understand the assembly and general construction of ACE Winches key asset types – Drum Winches, Linear Winches, HPU’s, Sheaves, and A-Frames
- Understanding of correct lubrication types/methods
- Understanding of brakes and brake materials.
- Develop understanding of how machine tools are set-up and operated along with their inherent limitations
- Correctly utilise metrology equipment during assembly, inspection, manufacturing, and repairs
- Understanding of different material grades and appropriate feeds/speeds/cutting tools applied to machine them
Hydraulic
- Basic understanding of common hydraulic components, their function and application
- Understand the difference between open and closed loop circuits
- Ability to understand and follow Hydraulic Schematics
- Understanding of trouble shooting/fault finding practices and techniques
- Understand the importance of hydraulic cleanliness along with relevant flushing techniques
- Understanding of basic hydraulic tank design
- Understand different thread forms/types, how they are identified and specified
- Understand the difference between pipe, tube, and hose and their applications
- Understand the steps taken to commission hydraulic equipment
- Understand electrical componentry, its application and follow electrical schematics
- Understanding of inspection and test equipment and its application
- Understanding of trouble shooting/fault finding practices and techniques.
- Understand the steps taken to commission electrical equipment
Hire
- Understanding of the ‘Planned Maintenance System’
- Learn how to complete logs for preventative maintenance activities.
- Understanding of the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) requirements for differing asset types
- Understanding of standard FAT test equipment: RLM’s (Running Line Monitors), Load Cells, Flow Meters, etc
- Understand the utilities requirements (Air/Power/Water) for each asset type
- Gain an understanding of wire rope and socket types and how the two are attached
- Knowledge of Installation and commissioning processes & procedures
- Understanding the importance of meeting customer requirements along with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Attend relevant departmental/project meetings armed with the necessary information
- Support internal handover/kick-off meetings as required
- Implementation of applicable processes and procedures as per QMS
- To proactively engage with other internal stakeholders in a positive manner
- To continually improve via provided training, ongoing work experience and appraisals
- To fulfil requirements during each departmental rotation
- Always promote the company in a positive manner
- Correct utilisation of PPE
Qualifications and Skills Required
Essential
- BEng in Engineering related discipline
- Previous related work experience/internship
- IT literate with Microsoft Office experience
- Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Adaptable to accommodate changing workloads and priorities
- Ability to interface with multi-disciplined/multi-cultural team
- Self-motivated and proactive
Desirable
- MEng in Engineering related discipline
- Experience with Data Management systems (PLM/PDM/ERP etc.)
- Practical Hands-on ability with basic hand tools
