Advisory – Cost and Carbon
Our Advisory Services is market leading, engaging clients in both the public and private sectors. We work with clients both in the UK and around the world, supporting projects in sectors such as:
- Aviation
- Water and Wastewater
- Transportation – Roads and Rail
- Energy and Utilities
- Oil and Gas
We support the development of innovative, class-leading solutions, engaging on projects and programmes from inception through to execution. Our team provides a wide range of data driven solutions for our clients to enable cost efficiencies to be identified and pursued.
We utilise the latest technologies and processes to produce market leading solutions for consultancy commissions which add tangible value to our clients.
In support of our organisational strategy and given wider global trends, we are seeing an increasing number of projects in the New Energy and Sustainable domain as we support clients in their journey towards low carbon and sustainable solutions.
The Opportunity

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects within the UK and potentially further afield. Roles and Responsibilities
The role can be varied and is dependent on the client, sector and project, which can include:
- Cost model and cost estimate development including third party verification and validation
- Statistical analysis to support benchmarking and efficiency exercises
- Business case development and cost benefit analysis (financial and non-financial)
We expect our consultants to:
- Work with clients to understand and evaluate strategic options to support investment decisions
- Design business models to help our clients identify the optimum business, organisational, or commercial models to deliver their organisational strategy.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction through benchmarking and efficiency exercises and articulate the impact of decisions through scenario modelling; allowing clients to make informed decisions on where, and how, to cut costs
As a Consultant at AECOM, you will have exposure many of the above tasks, utilising your skills and experience, and benefiting from exposure to new areas of study and research.
You will have responsibility for deliverables within your projects and initiatives, driving innovation with the support of colleagues. You will be technically excellent, providing leading solutions to clients that solve problems in an efficient and effective manner, whilst supported by senior team members.
You will be open and interested in the broad range of projects we are involved with, linking with the wider business. AECOM operates an agile working policy, allowing the location of this role to be flexible.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (min 2:2 or equivalent) in a STEM discipline such as Maths, Physics, Data Science, Economics. (Analytical background)
- Member of relevant industry body (desirable) with supporting accreditation/certifications
Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and interest in infrastructure projects, sustainability, cost, carbon and data.
- Coding & Software Development experience would be advantageous
- Strong capability in the Microsoft Suite of products
- Effective decision making with strong verbal and written communication
- Stakeholder management (ideally leading workshops and other client engagements)
- Proactive and driven
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and confidence to work with a wide range of Clients and Consultants
- Buy-in to achieving deadlines set by Clients and Managers
- Able to produce auditable outputs with clear record of error checking and demonstration of validity in results
- Takes pride in quality and appearance of Client deliverables
