    In what way do environmental, social, and governance factors influence investment returns and risks? If you know the answer to this question than you are one step closer to becoming our new Responsible Investment intern at Aegon Asset Management.

    As an intern you will become a vital part of the Responsible Investment Team and your insight and knowledge will help the team to foster integration of Environmental, Social and Governance issues (ESG) into investment processes. In your work you will support the RI team in advancing ESG integration, development of new responsible investment solutions and engagement.

    About the team

    With a very diverse international team we are committed to responsible and engaged investment. Our Responsible Investment framework has become an integral component of how we conduct business and we believe helps us make better investment decisions. The framework is based on three pillars: ESG integration, active ownership, and RI Solutions. The team, based in The Hague, Edinburgh, London and Chicago, oversees various aspects of the framework and facilitates implementation across Aegon business units.

    Role

    As an intern you will be exposed to all aspects of the team’s work, covering:

    • Research, impact analysis and data management;
    • Planning and documenting company engagement dialogues (letters, calls, meetings);
    • Monitoring and reporting progress of these dialogues in our database;
    • Contributing to our increasing reporting work to clients.

    You will get a good understanding of what responsible investing is all about, how expanding in-house ESG expertise works, and how the three areas of our Responsible Investment framework complement each other. In this role, you will get a chance to contribute to the impact of Aegon investments and their support to a transition to a more sustainable world. You may also get opportunities to work internally with specialists, and externally with portfolio companies and RI industry peers.

    The particular focus of your traineeship will depend on the current team workload as well as your personal interest.

    Profile

    This intern position is open to bachelor / master students with a background in finance but also psychology / political science if familiar with finance. Your profile should include the following characteristics:

    • Passion for sustainability issues;
    • Excellent communication and writing skills in English, and Dutch is desirable;
    • Data analysis skills;
    • Good attention to detail;
    • Strong people skills;
    • Good skills in working with Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
    • Highly motivated;
    • A strong team player as well as able to work independently
