- Structures Design
- Modeling & Simulation (including Finite Element Analysis)
- Landing Gear Engineering is part of the wider Systems Centre of Competence (CoC), providing Airbus Commercial with excellence in Landing Gear definition, integration, industrialisation and in-service support.
A complex area of aerospace engineering, Landing Gear engineering comprises control systems, mechanical systems & structures, integrated into the overall aircraft design for the key functions of take off, landing and taxiing.
A significant proportion of Landing Gear activities are focused on aircraft programmes including A350XWB, A320 family, A330 family and A380 aircraft, but there is also significant focus on Research & Technology (R&T) for future aircraft development, capability/tool development and data science, as a result work activities are varied and interesting. We are embracing the data revolution, and bringing digital technology and data science to the forefront of what we do in each of our technical disciplines.
What you will be doing
During the 2 year AGGP scheme you will have the opportunity to undertake several Landing Gear placements within Structures as well as placements in our other technical disciplines; these placements are designed to accelerate your learning path towards your final role within Landing Gear and provide you with a solid grounding for your future career. You may also have the opportunity to undertake placements outside Landing Gear and in other engineering / business areas with which we interface; these placements are designed to give you a broader understanding of the Airbus business, the functions with which we interface and a greater appreciation of the value chain in which you will work.
During your graduate experience, you may find yourself :
- Consulting with experts during the validation and verification of systems design by defining requirements both at system and equipment level prior to the testing phase, which is completed through the use of models, simulations and test rigs.
- Developing relationships with in-service and production teams to investigate and evaluate the stress experienced by a damaged component or providing feedback to the Final Assembly Line, enabling efficiency improvements.
- Working in a collaborative team to help build predictive maintenance algorithms which aim to increase both the aircraft availability and reliability using data analytics methods and machine learning methods within our big data platform, Skywise.
- Building collective knowledge in the team, problem solving, reporting your findings, presenting progress and results to stakeholders, enabling teamwork across functions and sites.
When you leave the scheme we expect you to have picked up the skills that lay the foundations for a long career in aerospace, for example:
- Product knowledge of the landing gear functions, systems and components
- Familiarity with Airbus engineering design processes, methods and tools
- Core structures engineering skills applied to real world aircraft design
