The Airbus Engineering Structures work placement is well established and widely recognised as preparing the engineers of the future, equipping them with the wide variety of skills and experience needed to maintain Airbus as one of the leading commercial aerospace companies in the world. During the scheme there will be placements in various areas within Repairs to build on core skills, develop project management and leadership skills, transnational working and an understanding of the customer. There is also additional tool and soft skill training, and opportunities to work on a variety of projects.

You will work with a team of highly experienced Engineers across a variety of disciplines to gain experience of Repair Design, Static Stress and Fatigue & Damage Tolerance.

The Airbus Engineering Wing Repairs organisation is part of the wider repairs organisation giving “Follow the Sun” support to keep our fleet of aircraft flying with customers around the world. There are teams around the world to support this, but this role will be based primarily in Filton, Bristol. The teams collaborate to provide repair solutions from small items fixed in minutes, to major incidents taking weeks or months to define.

Wing Repairs covers the whole of the Airbus commercial fleet, from the remaining A300’s flying to the latest A350. The Wing Repairs organisation also collaborates in the design of the latest aircraft to ensure designs are repairable, along with research into the latest manufacturing methods such as additive layer to create repair parts.

What you will be doing

During the Engineering placement you will develop the core skills needed in the wing business and your future development.

  • Static Stress analysis, from first principles to GFEM
  • Fatigue and Damage Tolerance
  • Design – CATIA tools, configuration management and DMU
  • Digitalisation - automating processes using coding skills

You will also develop the following

  • Project Management through working with Repair teams on a variety of projects
  • Business and Financial knowledge
  • Leadership Skills through working on projects with a broad range of people, and nationalities
  • Customer focus through working with our Customer Service organisation.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • Passionate about Aerospace and the challenges of the civil aircraft market
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Collaborate well within a team
  • Are sensitive to clients needs and can develop good client relationships
  • Studying or Studied a degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering (2:1 or higher)
  • Good knowledge of coding and data analysis techniques
