We currently have an Industrial Placement opportunity available within the Data and Digital R&D team to start in the summer of 2024. The position is predominantly office based but with the potential to experience laboratory and field data collection.
Candidates must be highly enthusiastic about working on a multitude of problems and to work with a variety of data sources across the whole data science workflow. You will work under the guidance of a line manager and will be supported by a dynamic and diverse team of data scientists, chemists, biologists and industry experts, as well as guidance from external experts in data science (where possible).
The role
- Apply academic theory in an applied industrial environment
- Working in a maturing digital and data science team, within a large multinational organisation
- Data input, extraction, cleaning, wrangling and modelling of a range of data sets including chemistry, testing/performance, and environmental
- Create and deploy data pipelines with well documented code
- Design and implement data visualisations and dashboards, meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders
- Follow data project procedures for value management, version control, documentation and reporting
- Presentation and communication of project work to stakeholders
About you
- Expecting a minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent* on a course that offers you the option of taking a Year in Industry.
- Data science or related discipline with demonstrable experience in data analysis (e.g. mathematics/statistics/physics etc).
- Excellent Excel skills including macro development
- Experience writing scripts in R and/ or Python
- Practical understanding / experience of working with SQL databases
- Experience in data analytics and data visualization
- Knowledge of report/ dashboard generation (e.g. PowerBI/ Quarto/ Reportlab or similar)
- Awareness of cloud computing platforms e.g. Azure
- Enjoys applying data knowledge to real-world applications
- Has ideas & the energy & determination to make them happen
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills; particularly communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences
- Wants to work in an international environment
- Comfortable working in a cross-functional, multidisciplinary and collaborative working environment where supporting colleagues is key
- You should be familiar with fundamental data science concepts, but specialized training on focused content will be given during the internship.
