    The role

    The Alexander McQueen Archive team are seeking a highly organised, enthusiastic & creative individual to take the position of Graduate Trainee, Archivist based on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract. The role comprises a mix of both daily and project-based tasks.

    The successful candidate will receive training to equip them with the relevant skills for a career in the care and management of textile collections.

    How you will contribute?

    • Office management of archive team and site (answers phone / answers door / books, sorts and receives all deliveries / stationary and non-specialist ordering of all materials / logs and manages requests for rails, hangers and ad hoc stock / diary and calendar management / designated contact for all storage related enquires).
    • Assisting in day-to-day archive services (facilitating internal collections-based design research, logging out, arranging transportation and returning loans from archive collections, Work-in-Progress toiles and Vintage Archive).
    • Assisting in day-to-day work on Archive collections (assisting Archive team with cataloguing and photographing collections / supporting with data digitisation project / developing skills to assist with collections preservation projects).
    • Assisting on ad-hoc projects as and when required (special projects / exhibitions / company events)
    • Attendance and minute-taking for weekly meetings with the Head of Operations and Facilities

    About you

    • BA (Hons) degree in an art, design or historical based subject
    • Exceptional organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail
    • Entrepreneurial and solutions focused with a ‘can do’ attitude
    • Astute with a strong memory
    • Good technical knowledge of clothing terms and references
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Manual dexterity, with sensitivity to handling different objects according to weight and material
    • Demonstrable interest in fashion heritage, with a passion for the Alexander McQueen house
    • Eager to learn and develop skills in preventative conservation and condition reporting
    • Strong IT skills, especially using Microsoft Office programmes
    • Knowledge and interest in textile Preservation

    Desirable 

    • DSLR photography skills
    • Image-editing skills
    • Knowledge of CMS systems
