    We are looking for a Data Engineer Apprentice, based in London.

    The Opportunity

    Starting in September 2023, our Data Engineer Apprentice programme will give you the opportunity to develop a range of skills while working within our Global Pricing Data team. In addition to on-the-job development, over the course of 24 months, you’ll spend 20% of your time participating on a Level 7 Digital and Technology Solutions Specialist apprenticeship programme. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to embark on a career as a Data Engineer and will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviors for success.

    Your Team

    You will join our programme as part of our Global Pricing team which is responsible for driving the use of data solutions within Pricing across AGCS globally. This international team, located across London, Munich, Bucharest and North America has grown to 80 people globally and will provide lots of opportunities for diverse experience and exposure.

    The Impact You Will Have

    You will work closely with our Data Engineering managers to interrogate data and implement data flows across our various lines of business and regions to support advanced predictive analytics and data driven applications. We are looking for someone who is willing to get hands on with the company’s data and to develop innovative and structured solutions to bring it together in a way that maximizes its potential. This person will need to collaborate internationally with various stakeholders, both within the Pricing Function and across other AGCS functions.

    Some of your specific responsibilities could include

    • Maintaining and enhancing our Pricing data lake and data warehouse
    • Developing knowledge of company’s IT landscape, data and data systems
    • Helping to develop new data ingestion processes within our Cloud based platform, to ensure that data can be properly leveraged in the future
    • Supporting the development of interactive dashboards and applications for the Global Pricing department
    • Developing data preperation solutions and data pipelines for predictive modelling projects and pricing applications
    • Collaborating with Data Engineers and Predictive Modellers to deliver innovative data solutions
    • Support the pricing actuaries on their data requests

    What You’ll Bring to the Role

    • A degree at BSc level in a Numerical or Technological field, preferably with a strong focus on Computer Science or Data Engineering, or other relevant qualifications or experience
    • Willingness to learn additional skills such as PySpark and Data Modelling
    • Strong computer fundamentals: Excel, SQL or Python experience preferred (or similar)
    • Relishes problem solving, analysis and getting hands on digging into data issues
    • Willingness to work in an international / virtual environment
    • Good influencing skills
    • Some understanding of data visualisation and/or wider user interface design an advantage
    • Fluent English language skills

    Further Information

    • The role is fixed term for 24 months, but we expect well-performing candidates to be converted into a permanent role before the end of this term.
    • You will be supported on a generous study package- approximately 1 day a week.
    • This apprenticeship will commence in September 2023.
